Nation’s Best and Brightest Compete in Premier Academic Challenge

More than 320 college students from 64 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) faced off this weekend in a unique battle of academic prowess at the 20th annual Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC) in Orlando, FL. HCASC is the largest academic competition of its kind. Colleges and universities from Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Ohio, Illinois, Mississippi, Kentucky, Missouri, Pennsylvania and New York participated.

The three-day tournament allowed students to showcase their knowledge of world history, science, literature, religion, the arts, social science and popular culture. The event opened with a surprise guest appearance from actress and HIV/AIDS activist Jurnee Smollett and a special musical performance from Clark Atlanta alumnae Chante Cann.

During the tournament, teams competed in a modified round robin format with the final two teams battling it out for the title of National Champion and grand prize award of $50,000. While Oakwood University from Huntsville, AL walked away with the grand prize, each participating school took home grant money for their school.

Now in its 20th year, the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge has touched more than 50,000 HBCU students and awarded grant money to help support facility improvements and expanded academic resources on participating universities.
