HBCU Graduate Studies Expo

Given the number of HCASC participants that go on to attend graduate and professional school after completing their undergraduate studies,the graduate school expo has become one of most attended features of the competition. The HCASC Graduate School Expo allows students to get personal one-on-one attention from recruiters at some of the top HBCU graduate programs.

With 10 institutions, representing hundreds of academic programs in areas including law, health, education, business, medicine, liberal arts, science, technology, and more, the HCASC Graduate and Professional Studies Expo is a great chance to explore opportunities, deadlines, admission procedures, testing requirements and financial aid.

Below is a list of the participating institutions as well as a sampling of their course offerings.

The Alabama State University, School of Graduate Studies is the admitting school for all students pursuing advanced degrees at Alabama State University. The Graduate School works in cooperation with the degree granting colleges (College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, College of Health Sciences, and College of Business). Master of Arts and Master of Science degrees are available in the areas of Accounting, Biology, General Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, History and Mathematics.

The Master of Education degree is available in the areas of Instructional Leadership, Biology Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Health Education, History Education, Library Education Media, Music Education, Mathematics Education, Physical Education, School Counseling, Social Sciences, Collaborative (Special) Education, and Reading Specialist.
The Alternative Fifth-Year Programs (ALTA) that lead to the Master of Education (M.Ed), degree and certification are available in the areas of Biology Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Health Education, History Education, Music Education, Mathematics Education, Physical Education, Social Sciences and Special Education.

Education Specialist (Ed.S) degrees are available in the areas of Instructional Leadership, Biology Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, General Counseling,History Education, Library Education Media, Mathematics Education, School Counseling and Social Sciences.
The University offers three doctoral program degrees: Educational Leadership, Policy and Law (Ed.D.), Microbiology (Ph.D.) and Physical Therapy (DPT).
The doctoral program in Educational Leadership, Policy and Law (Ed.D.) require individuals to engage in at least three years of doctoral study and successfully complete a minimum of 69 semester hours of post master's level work.  The program in Microbiology (PH.D.) serves as Alabama State University's first science-based research doctoral program.  The Philosophy of the Alabama State University Graduate Program in Physical Therapy (DPT) is based on the belief that concepts from the physical, biological, and social sciences serve as the scientific foundation for physical therapy education and practice.

Florida A&M University College of Law is a recently re-established law school in Orlando, Florida, and is affiliated with Florida A&M University, a historically black college in Tallahassee, Florida. The College of Law’s rich tradition of excellence dates back to its original founding in 1949. Between 1849 and 1968, the College of Law graduated 57 students. In 2002, the College of Law re-opened in downtown Orlando as the only public law school in Central Florida. The College of Law has been provisionally accredited with the American Bar Association since August 2004 and serves as an attractive option for law school for many reasons, including its diversity, affordability, facilities, accomplished faculty and commitment to public service.

The North Carolina Central University School of Law was established in 1939 and is located in Durham, NC.  It is one of 16 constituent institutions of the University of NC System.  The School of Law had been accredited by the NC State Bar Council and the ABA since 1950.  It is one of the most affordable and diverse in the country.

The School of Law offers two programs leading to the Juris Doctor degree: a full-time day program and the oldest ABA-accredited part-time evening program between Atlanta, GA and Washington DC. The School of Law participates in an interinstitutional agreement with Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that permit students to enroll in electives at any member law school without an increase in tuition.
